This was the perfect place to stay while visiting DC as a tourist, and I'd definitely go back. The best part is the location, within walking distance of the Lincoln Memorial and Georgetown, and 2 1/2 blocks away from a metro station - and an affordable uber ride from most destinations near the mall. The room was comfortable, the bed was perfect and they had the best pillows I've ever had in a hotel (both down and regular pillows were available). I'd stay there just for that. The sofabed, unfortunately, wasn't very comfortable. The mattress was very thin and didn't provide much padding over the metal frame. I would not recommend it for an adult. The room layout was fine, and there were plenty of outlets, though I'd have appreciated a second chair (though I'm not sure where they could locate it). The kitchen was well stocked, though with silverware for just 2 people. Also, there isn't really a surface for more than 2 people to eat (there is a little sofa table for one and the desk). It's really a room for just 2. The other problem is the heat - they keep it at around 72 in winter which is far, far too hot. I didn't realize until we checked out that we could have opened the windows. But all of this is minutia. All in all, we were very comfortable and I'd chose the place again. Everyone at the hotel was very nice and helpful, and the restaurant at the hotel was good. All in all, a great experience.

The River Inn is an excellent hotel in the pretty streets around the University area of Washington. The staff are very friendly and helpful - anything we asked for, we got with a smile. Our room had a full kitchen, dressing area, sofa and lots of room, draws, hanging space etc. It's a few minute's walk to the Metro at Foggy Bottom. Nearby (turn right then left) there is Circa restaurant and bar, and a fantastic Wholefoods store (don't be put off by the name if you're from the UK, it's not "Wholefoods" like that) that sell every kind of fresh and prepared food, plus toiletries etc, so you can self-cater. There is a restaurant Madera at the hotel serving breakfast and dinner (Lovely staff, thanks a lot). We had breakfast there twice; we found Washington very expensive but the food quality was always great. You can walk to GeorgeTown (Recommended) and the Potomac from the hotel. A note: you can take the Metro from the airport now; the Silver Line will take you to Foggy Bottom ($6.75 for single trip) takes 45 mins and is just excellent. Buy a SmarTrip card then top it up when you need it (most Metro Journeys are just $2.25). You can also visit Arlington on the Metro. Other musts: Dumbarton Oaks, every Museum on the Smithsonia route, The American Indian Museum, African American Museum, Botanical Gardens and the Kreeger Museum. A fantastic holiday, thanks to everyone who made it so special.

The River Inn is a perfect position to visit Washington DC. The hotel is really close to Metro Stop Foggy Bottom GWU, less than 5 minutes walk. Within 15 minutes you can reach The White House (behind). The personnel of the hotel is really nice, very supportive and friendly. The most outstanding part of the hotel are the rooms that are refurbished with a full equipped kitchen. I always had breakfast like home as nearby, within 5 minutes walk there are Trader's Joe and Whole Food Supermarkets. The area is really calm for a perfect night sleep. The hotel includes a laundry and a fitness room. I have really enjoyed the dinner at the restaurant of the Hotel (Restaurant Matera). The quality of food served is really good and dishes are yummy. This is surely a place I will not hesitate to return in the next future.

Perfect location from which to explore DC either by foot or metro which was a few mins walk away. Exceptional customer service. Good size room - comfortable and spotless, with sofa, seating for in-room dining, large desk to work at, TV, alarm clock, nice size bathroom, good shower with large rainshower head, well-stocked kitchenette (large fridge with ice, hob, microwave, coffee machine, toaster, cooking equipment and utensils, plates, bowls, cutlery, mugs and glasses, salt and pepper and additional items on request). Excellent Whole Foods Market 5 mins walk away, so could stock up if we didn't want to eat out. Decent small fitness centre. Nice restaurant - Matera, had a good, buzzy atmosphere and tasty food. Would definitely stay at the River Inn again and would highly recommend it.

Loved the River Inn. Very clean and comfortable with friendly staff who were always happy to help and advise. The hotel may be a little dated in places, but this in no way detracted from our stay. We stayed here for 5 nights and found the all-suite bedrooms to be large with a well-equipped kitchen which was fine for breakfast and simple meals. There is also a small gym and small laundry room. Perfectly located on a quiet street in Foggy Bottom, the hotel is a 10/15 minute walk from George Town and maybe 20/25 minutes to the National Mall. It is also a short 5 minute walk to the nearest Metro station (Foggy Bottom) which sits on the silver, blue and orange lines, giving easy access to the city centre, Dulles Airport and Arlington.
